March 11 at Bay Street Theater
Members of the East End Taste & Terroir initiative gathered for a morning panel and working meeting moderated by Roman Roth with panelists K.C. Boyle, Ann Welker, Kareem Massoud, and Steve Judelson. The discussion focused on how the East End can work together to highlight its agricultural heritage, culinary talent, and local ingredients to become a stronger year-round food and wine destination.
Key Discussion Points
Define and highlight the ingredients that truly represent the East End
Opportunity to create a larger-scale food and wine event that showcases the region, similar in impact to the North Shore’s oyster festival
Every stakeholders should explore opportunities to create local experiences combining local food, wine and culture.
Build a clear narrative for visitors that connects farms, seafood, wine, and restaurants
Over 10,000 acres of farmland preserved, creating a strong foundation for an authentic food, wine and agriculture story
Focus on “turning the off-season on” through events and programming outside the summer months
Explore opportunities with the Long Island Rail Road to improve access and potentially reduce traffic
Off-season timing could make it easier for visitors to find places to stay and explore the region

As we discussed at the meeting, the East End has incredible ingredients, farmers, fishermen, winemakers, and chefs. If we work together and focus on achievable ideas, we can build experiences that celebrate our terroir and help make the East End a true year-round destination.
